Abe: No congresses held; Dogo: Congresses held

The same things that happened in the PDP seem to be happening in the APC that says it has come to change the way things are done.

Now, after the Saturday congresses in Rivers State, a key member of the party, Senatir Magnus Abe, says it did not hold and that those who stormed the APC sevcretariat in protest were heroes of the party.

On the other hand, the party leadership said the protesters were touts, not heroes. The man who sent by the national headquarters to supervise the exrcise, Joseph Dogo, said congresses held.

APC Governors forum has frowned at conduct of some party members during the congress held in some states during the weekend. Chairman of the forum and Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha spoke to the newsmen after he closed the meeting with Muhammad Buhari in Kastina state yesterday. Governor Okorocha said the party will check such incidence in the future. He also said that his meeting with the president was to update him on the outcome of the APC ward congress across the country. The Zamfara State Governor Abdul Azizi Yare was also at the meeting.

Meanwhile, Senator Magnus Abe has frowned at the description of APC members who protested against the conduct of the ward congresses as touts. Abe who represents River South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly said those protested should be rather be seen as heroes of the party.

Abe had earlier said that no ward congress held in the state on Saturday. Reacting to this, chairman of the APC ward congress committee in Rivers State, Joseph Dogo, said there are documented evidence to show that ward congresses held in the state.  Mr. Dogo stated this shortly after collating the results of the ward congresses from the 23 local governments in Rivers state. “I personally went round including the jurisdiction of the distinguished senator and there are proves to show that there was a good election and the turn up was massive.

The chairman also said that the Saturday exercise was peaceful. “So far we have received results from the 23 LGA of Rivers State with the total combined ward of 319 wards. I therefore congratulate all members of APC in Rivers State, that without their co-operation, understanding and ability to abide to the democratic process, it would have been very difficult to achieve peace and it is a thing of joy.

Dogo also said the committee was currently processing the results of the congress so that they can hand it over to the committee who will entertain complains arising from Saturday ward congresses.

In another development, the senator representing Rivers East at the National Assembly, Andrew Uchendu, has called on all political agents of the APC ward congress to accept the result processed in the spirit of sportsmanship.

Also, the Director General, Nigeria Marine Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the ward congresses of the APC in the state last weekend. The statement by his media team thanked the party for the show of maturity during the period.
