* As cult-related violence claims two more lives in Rivers

Medical sources have raised alarm saying almost all patients sent to hospitals in some sections of Rivers State are victims of cult killings and related violence. This is as another shooting on Tuesday morning, January 22, 2019, by suspected cult gangs in Aluu area of Ikwerre local council area of Rivers State has left two persons dead and one critically injured.
Farmers who were on their way to farm in the early hours of the day said they witnessed the killing of two ladies while a motorcycle rider was badly injured due to the gunshots.
Recall that three persons including a 19-year-old were also killed in a similar incident the previous day, Monday.
Doctors who treated the cases on Monday and Tuesday said they have been besieged by patients bleeding from cult shooting or those who just died from it.
The doctor who carried out the surgery told our reporter that the victim is one out of thousands of gunshot victims by cult gangs brought to that hospital. He termed the victim lucky.
He used the medium to call on all security agencies in the state to beef up security, adding that 95 per cent of patients brought to their hospital these day were gunshot victims and that 98 per cent of dead bodies deposited at their morgue were dead bodies of victims killed by cult gangs.
He described the situation as pathetic and very frightening. “You live every day in fear these days in this part of the world”, he said.
It was gathered that the commercial motorcyclist (Okada) was conveying the two ladies to work when a group of cult boys who were believed to be seizing motorbikes from their owners ordered them to stop.
Details have continued to pour in on how the killings took place on Tuesday.
The commercial motorcyclist reportedly refused to stop and in an attempt to escape from the cult boys, fell to a hail of bullets. The shooting on the escaping trio left the two female passengers dead and the motorcyclist seriously injured.
The witnesses disclosed that the bike man was immediately taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, a previous shooting incident by cult gangs had left three persons dead and a widower with three children of the ages of five and three critically injured. It was gathered from the hospital where the victim is responding to treatment after a surgery which lasted eight hours that the gunshot victim is in stable condition.
