Arms, diversion of funds: APC vs PDP again

Wike; FG wants to frame me with arms running

APC; Wike wants pay Ekiti civil servants with Rivers money

The war of words in Rivers State featuring the Rivers State government and PDP on one hand and the APC on the other hand has continued unabated heading to the 2019 elections. Gov Nyesom Wike of PDP has released another bombshell, saying he has once again uncovered plans by the FG to frame him up with arms dealing. The APC on the other hand is running an accusation that Wike was about pumping Rivers money to bail out a PDP state for six months.

WIKE

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has alerted Nigerians that the APC Federal Government has contacted a Lebanese who has been directed to claim that he received money from him (Rivers State Governor) to procure arms  for the 2019 elections.

Also, Governor Wike alerted Nigerians on the arrest of the orderly of Rivers State Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) Commander, Akin Fakorede and another SARs operative for armed robbery and kidnapping.

Speaking during a Thanksgiving Service in honour of the Chairman of Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini on Sunday at the St Thomas Anglican Church, Diobu, Governor Wike said that the APC Federal Government has entered a devious mode where it believes that framing opponents will enhance its political fortunes.

He noted that initially Nigerians thought he was playing politics until Former President Olusegun Obasanjo revealed details of how the desperate APC Federal Government plans to frame him  up.

“The Federal Government has arranged with a Lebanese to say that I told him to buy arms for the purpose of the forthcoming elections.

“I am not close to any Lebanese, let alone give money to anyone to buy arms for elections. We have dutifully served our people and we don’t need to purchase arms for elections.

“If elections are held 20, 000 times, we will win because our projects have positively impacted the lives of our people “.

The governor stated that the APC Federal Government is also planning to sponsor crisis in Rivers State ahead of the the 2019 elections, for the state’s election to be postponed. He said the target is to use security agencies for rigging purposes.

“They plan to cause so much crisis in the state so that Rivers election is held on a separate date. Their plot will fail . Rivers election will hold same day with that of other states.

Speaking further,  Governor Wike said that most of the kidnappings and armed robbery  in Rivers State are masterminded by SARS operatives under the leadership of Akin Fakorede .

He said that the arrest and detention of the SARS Operatives prove their involvement in criminality against the people of the state.

The governor said that  Sergeant Ndubuisi Okoro, the Police  Orderly of the Rivers State Commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Akin Fakorede has been arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping while  another  member of the Rivers State SARS Commander’s team; Sergeant Christopher Abakpa has also been arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping.

Governor Wike declared that he is alerting Nigerians because the  Police High Command will sweep the matter under the carpet.

He said that  the two SARS Operatives run a kidnap and armed robbery gang of eight persons. According to him, the policemen  have confessed to their crime.

He said that the State Government is in possession of the statements made by the arrested operatives who kidnapped one Mrs Eva.

On the thanksgiving service, Governor Wike thanked God for preserving the life of Chief Nmerukini.

Earlier, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini, Chairman of Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, said that he was in church with his family to thank God for surviving a major surgery.

APC

The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, says it has confirmed what first came out as a rumour that the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, had concluded plans to pay off six months’ salary arrears the government of Ekiti State is owing its workers ahead of the forth coming governorship election in that state.

“The curious bailout Gov Wike is about offering his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayo Fayose, will be coming against the backdrop of imminent reduction of the number of civil servants of Rivers State which Gov Wike has ordered. It comes against a decaying secretariat complex where Rivers State civil servants endure untold inconveniences every working day. Indeed, it comes against the suffering of pensioners owed several months of gratuity and pension. Paradoxically, even political appointees of Gov. Wike are enduring untold hardship, suffering and smiling except for the select cabal popularly referred to as Cardinals.

“The APC recalls that after the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 presidential elections, Gov. Nyesom Wike effectively took over control of the party nationally and has since been spending billions of naira belonging to Rivers taxpayers to sustain the PDP.

“Sadly, we recall that Gov. Wike spent several billions of naira to hold an ill-fated national convention of the party in Port Harcourt in May, 2016. Afterwards, Wike single-handedly sustained the PDP with billions of naira belonging to Rivers people throughout the period the party was under the leadership of Markarfi-led caretaker committee. Gov. Wike it was who used the resources of Rivers State to fund the protracted legal tussle between the caretaker committee and its factional group led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff. Following the victory of the Makarfi-led caretaker committee at the Supreme Court, Gov. Wike, again, bankrolled the national convention of the party that followed in 2017 with Rivers State commonwealth. This culminated in Wike decimating and silencing the South-West and other leaders in PDP to successfully capture the national structure of PDP by installing his acolyte and stooge, Prince Uche Secondus as the party’s national chairman.

“Quite sadly, we note that the decision of Gov. Wike to pay outstanding six months salaries owed to Ekiti State civil servants is coming as part of Wike’s inordinate desire to maintain his position as the leading financier and national leader of PDP. Whereas other PDP governors are busy developing their states and bettering the standard of living of their people, Gov Wike remains consumed by the obscene and inordinate craving to continue as the little god of PDP. While no one begrudges him the pursuit of his vane glory, the bitter truth is that Gov Wike is fritting away resources that should be channelled at bettering the lot of the ordinary Rivers people.

“We find it hard to believe that a governor that came into office and immediately discontinued and returned Rivers youths on overseas scholarship on account of lack of funds, finds it convenient to play Father Christmas for purely political reasons. We ask: why is it that other PDP governors of equally oil-rich Akwa Ibom and Delta States are not throwing the commonwealth of their people at sustaining and controlling the PDP?

“Again, we recall that in his bid to take advantage of the killings in Benue State some months ago, Gov. Wike doled out N500m to Benue State with the sole aim of luring Governor Ortom to join the PDP. The Benue State governor collected the money and boldly rebuffed Wike’s entreaties. In that drama, the poor Rivers taxpayers were the losers while Wike continues in his satanic extravaganza with our money.

“The APC calls on Rivers people to protest the decision of Gov. Nyesom Wike to, once again, embark on this senseless and atrocious decision to spend billions of naira belonging to Rivers people to pay six months outstanding salaries of Ekiti State civil servants while the workers and people of Rivers State are suffering poverty, indignities and penury.”
