Plot by former Rivers governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, now Minister of Transportation, to unseat Gov Nyesom Wike through an unknown political party seems to hit the rocks Monday morning when the running mate of the party decamped to Amaechi’s bitterest enemy, Wike.

The man, a chief, known as Akpo Bomba Yeeh, shocked the world when he announced he was no longer interested in becoming governor but was keen to help another man be the next governor.

Rumours all through the weekend that Akpo Bomba Yeeh, running mate to Awara Biokpomabo, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate adopted to fight Gov Wike in the March 9, 2019 election, was negotiating to dump his party and join the ruling party in the state thus proved true.

By noon of Monday, a statement signed by Bomba Yeeh said he had decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that Wike truly won. He took on Amechi for Wike, saying he and the AAC flag-bearer signed what he called a slavish deal allegedly dictated to him at gunpoint by the minister, Amaechi.

Addressing a section of the media in Port Harcourt on Monday, March 25, 2019, Yeeh, an Ogoni chief, said the reason for his decision was for him to join hands with Gov Wike to move Rivers State forward.

He said: “After  due consultations with my immediate family,  friends and supporters,  I Chief Akpo Bomba Yeeh,  the Deputy Governorship (candidate) of the AAC for the 2019 Governorship election hereby resign my membership of the AAC and announce my defection to the PDP to join hands with Governor Wike to move the state forward “.

He went on: “The  March 9 , Governorship election in Rivers State has been lost and won; lost by my party, AAC and its candidate, Biokpomabo Awara and undoubtedly and overwhelmingly won by the Gov Wike of the PDP”. He said that despite the interference of the security agencies, Rivers people stood their ground and voted for Gov Wike.

He said: “The collated results further showed that contrary to the false claim  of fictitious lead by my party, the AAC/APC alliance,  the PDP overwhelmingly won  all  the elections  in 18 out of the 19 LGAs,  culminating in the declaration and return of the party 26 House of Assembly Constituencies by the Constituency Returning Officers.

“This fact was confirmed on the 13th of March 2019, when INEC stated, as a matter of fact,  that it had in it’s safe custody collated results for 17 Local Government Areas as well as the declaration of the PDP Candidates for 21 State Constituencies.”

He recounted several offences and atrocities he said Amaechi and the Army committed to make him and his candidate winners, and said Amaechi forced them o sign away 90 per cent of all appointments and that he would have to resign after victory for APC’s deputy to join the ticket.

Yeeh has already been hosted in Government House by Gov Wike few hours after he decamped. Wike said no one man’s interest is bigger than Rivers State, declaring that all leaders must work together to move Rivers State forward.

Gov Wike said: “History will be on your side. You have shown that the interest of the state is above personal consideration.  God will not only protect you, He will reward you for this decision.

“Rivers State is the only state we have. Everyone must work together to move this state forward. It is important to take this state to greater heights. It is not everyone  that can take this kind of decision.  It requires maturity to take this kind of decision “.

The Amaechi camp has remained silent since the devastating development. No word has been heard from the ACC flag-bearer, Biokpomabo, either. Some APC enthusiasts who are not authorized to speak to the press have however contended Yeeh must note that in the eyes of the Electoral Act, he is still on the AAC ticket because the time to decamp or withdraw has elapsed.

This is the second running mate to resign and decamp to Wike’s PDP, and also from Ogoni area. The running mate to SDP’s Precious Elekima had decamped in the last minute and the Governor had said this action had rendered the ticket void.

Eze bombs Bomba back

Bomba was whisked off by a black jeep, phones off. Says son

A chieftain of the APC in Rivers state, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, said Monday night that when the news of the kidnapping and bribing of Mr. Akpo Bomba Yeeh to the tune of N200m was awash in the Social Media last Saturday night nobody took the news seriously wondering how possible that  Gov Wike should stoop that low to embark upon such a worthless plot.

The story started getting sense when Mr Lekue Akpo, the son of Mr. Akpo Bomba Yeeh, narrated how the Rivers State government stormed his father’s hotel and took him off, “My father was taken away from his hotel in a black jeep to an unknown place last night and all his phones have been switched off”

To the chagrin of the entire Rivers State political class, Mr. Yeeh wasn’t actually kidnapped but through the negotiating prowess of a senator from the area who initiated and supervised the negotiations, the man gave in for N200m.

Rivers State is now a state where neither salaries or pensions are paid to the civil servants and pensioners without any project to show for billions of Naira that accrued to the State but wasted on such trivial issues like bribing an individual  whose political value doesn’t matters.

Eze described the defection of Mr. Yeeh to PDP as not only laughable, an excerise in futility, inconsequential and of no impact on the rescue mission that will culminate to the ouster of Wike from the Brick House.

Eze maintained that the new pact between Wike and Yeeh only succeeded to expose the fact that Wike truly lost the 9th March polls to Engr. Awara of AAC contrary to his false claims that INEC will do his bidding and announce him as the Governor-elect of Rivers State knowing very well that he has lost it. This has made him to seek to spend such a huge sum to cause the Deputy Governorship candidate of his superior opponent who defeated him in the polls to defect.

Eze expressed shock not minding that a senator midwifed this unholy pact. He said by this, Gov Wike haa appointed the new member of his government, Mr. Yeeh, to take over from Abe as the head of the Propaganda Unit of his administration not minding that this man has no knowledge of media activities.

Based on the shortcomings of Mr. Yeeh, Gov Wike has Emma Okay, Hon. Commissioner for Information, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, Abe’s Senior Assistant on Media, Kennedy Friday, to join and collaborate with the new Head of Propaganda Unit to spew an already prepared document on daily basis to ensure that the image and person and personality is reduced to nothing.

Eze finally stated that the latest plot is aimed at frustrating and making it impossible for Amaechi to be reappointed into the cabinet of President Muhammad Buhari after May 2019 but what Wike, Abe, and those aiding them don not know is that they can’t come in between President Buhari and his son, Dr Amaechi.

Eze pleaded with the Rivers people to have patience with their great son as the plot to destroy him will amount to nothing as usual.

Awara says it’s a shame

Meanwhile, the AAC flag bearer has described the sudden defecting of his running mate as a shame. He told some reporters on phone that the action remained a shame and a disgrace in the politics of the state.
