Can Pleasure Park ground take 5-star hotel as Gov Wike promised?

Gov Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has moved into another idea; to construct a 5-star hotel at the Pleasure Park in Port Harcourt.  Many however ask if the entire land space is able to contain a 5-star hotel, let alone carving out a small portion of the land available there for such a project.

Gov Wike said that the State Government is developing the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park into a comprehensive package for leisure and tourism.

He spoke on Friday during the opening of the Ultra-modern Michael Garden Restaurant at the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park.

He said: “We have concluded plans to construct a 5-star hotel inside the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park.  Our objective is to ensure that residents and tourists enjoy modern entertainment facilities in the heart of the town.

“We have opened different beautiful facilities at the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park.  Today, we are opening a different aspect “.

He said that the Rivers State Government has developed the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park into an exciting entertainment location.

Commissioning the Michael Garden Restaurant,  wife of the governor, Justice Suzzette Wike, commended her husband for transforming the location from a neglected borrow pit into an international tourist destination.

She said: “It is a beautiful transformation.  We have a lot to thank God for in Rivers State. Indeed, we have a leader in our Governor.  I say leader, not a ruler.  All inspiration comes from God and this couldn’t have been, without the inspiration placed on him by God.”

Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor in charge of Pleasure Park,  Mr Sunny Wokekoro, said that the new restaurant is part of the total package of fun.

Manager of Michael Garden Restaurant, Mrs Rossie Basha, said the company is happy to be part of the success story of the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park.

Five-Star Hotel?

Such size of hotel is huge and expensive. It has at least 100 rooms to be economical and each room is treated as an entity with its own cost. The most important amenity could be parking space. This is expected to as large as the entire space occupied by the Pleasure Park. It is so large that guests do not park cars themselves but allow valets (authorized to handle guests’ cars) to drive the car and park it. This is both a luxury and necessity. A guest can hardly trek from car park to the reception.

Other five-star amenities include a choice of at least two complimentary newspapers, offered and distributed, a welcome gift upon arrival, 24-hour room service, including hot food, and a thoughtful presentation during turndown service. Additionally, at least two types of premium quality snacks are automatically offered and distinctly presented during bar and lounge service. All mixed drinks are presented with modified or full club service. And work services undertaken by the staff are handled with complete professionalism—with documents returned neatly in folders or envelopes. Additionally, a 24-hour concierge service is a must.
