Female journalism practitioners urge women to pay attention to budgets to know how resources are spent

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has asked women all over the country to pick interest in budget presentation to know how the nation resources are being managed. The group said governments hide things in the budget especially security to divert funds.

This was stated at Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ ) press centre in lokoja during a three day workshop organised by Kogi State NAWOJ chapter in collaboration with Norwegian Union of Journalists ( NORSKJOURNALISTLEG) with the theme Gender, Equity, and Safety On Gender Sensitive Reporting for Women Journalists.

Speaking, Ifeyinwa Omowele, NAWOJ President insisted that federal, state governments,  and organisations have to provide creche for nursing mothers to alleviate their problems during that critical stage of taking care of their children.

She equally advised women in any organisation to come together pick one of the offices and use it as a creche and employ a nanny.

Also speaking, Veronica Ogbole, one of the resource person maintained that female journalists should take cognizance of gender policy if the want to report about gender.

She equally disclosed that government hides under security vote and to steal the country’s money.

She advised women to strengthen their voice, saying the issues about gender equity equip female journalists with their skill and knowledge.  “We can not achieve anything gender without involving men.”
