FG to backdate minimum wage pension arrears to April 2019 —Ekpo Nta


The Federal Government has commenced the immediate payment of pension increments arising from the new minimum wage Act of 2019

Acting Chairman of National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC) Ekpo Nta, disclosed this in Calabar over the weekend while briefing newsmen at the Earnest Bassey Press Centre, Cross River State.

According to the chairman, the National Minimum wage Act stipulates  that the minimum wage of 30,000,00 should be applicable to all worker’s and employees in the whole country except for exceptions as prescribed under the Act 

Nta further said, “As soon as the salary adjustments were concluded, the National Salaries, Income and wages Commission held several meetings to increase pension under the defined scheme”.

This he said was in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders’ .

He commended other relevant stakeholders like the National Union of Pensioners, Pension Administration Department (PTAD), Budget Office of the Federation , Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment among others.

Nta who is the former Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practice Commission (ICPC) and a member of the Presidential Committee on Salary said the arrears would be paid from April 18, 2019.

“I want to seize this opportunity to thank all Stakeholders and our patient Pensioners for bearing with the process that has finally culminated in the successful conclusion of the matter”, he stated.
