The newly elected President-General, Onitsha Community in Anambra state, Sir Chike Andy Ekweogwu has vowed to leave legacies that will be constant reminder to Onitsha people of the quality of his representation.
Ekweogwu said this during his inauguration ceremony that was performed by Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nn’emeka Achebe at Ime Obi, Onitsha on Friday
The president-general who won the election overwhelmingly, 51-14, described his victory, “as the will of the good people of Onitsha, while thanking God that the election was peaceful’’.
He said that his aim in contesting the PG position was to bring government closer to the doorsteps of members of Onitsha community.
He pledged to deliver on his promises, which include creating mutual and cordial understanding between Ndi Onitsha and the rest of Ndi Anambra.
Ekweogwu of Umudei Village, while speaking on his vision and mission for Onitsha said that he would embrace all interests groups and segments of Onitsha, and would not discriminate against any.
“My people gave me their mandate to represent them and change the face of Onitsha community because they know that I am equal to the tasks, I will not fail them.
“I will reciprocate that confidence reposed in me by ensuring that I fulfill my promises. My door is open for suggestions from all villages and everyone will be carried along,’’ he vowed.
He commended the efforts and reign of Igwe Achebe, for his many achievements in Onitsha and the state in general, saying he had the confidence that his tenure as PG would attract more projects to Onitsha.
President, Ado Integrity Initiative (AII), Amalunweze Ikem Ejiamike, said his organisation endorsed the new PG, who they believe would perform well, stressing “my responsibility is to support in moving Onitsha forward.
`I believe the new PG won the election because of his antecedents when he was the president-general, Onitsha Improvement Union (OIU), Lagos branch.
Ejiamike, however, commended the past PG, Chinyelugo Chinyelugo Anionwu, for doing well during his tenure, saying he was now the new Chief of Staff to Obi of Onitsha.
