The chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Engr Samuel Nwanosike (JP), on Monday expressed delight that Ikwerre Ethnic Nationality now has people in the media industry who are ready to tell the world the story of Ikwerre nation and her people.
Hon Nwanosike, who is the immediate past Publicity Secretary of Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed this delight when the Ikwerre Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (IMPAN) paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Council’s Secretariat, Isiokpo.
A people without those that will tell their story is considered as a lost generation.
So, I am happy that we now have as organisation in the media world called Ikwerre Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria.
If we had this in the past nobody would have asked, who is Ikwerre man? Hon Nwanosike said.
He urged members of the association never to allow it go to extinction, saying that the association should be a foundation for other incoming media practitioners of Ikwerreland.
Hon Nwanosike appreciated God for creating him as an Ikwerre man, adding that there is no other nationality he would have loved to come from apart from Ikwerre.
According to him, I am a proud Ikwerre son. I have no apology to anybody. Those who have followed my programmes, even when I was in the university, will tell you that I am glad and grateful to God Almighty for creating me and putting me in this part of the hemisphere. There is no other ethnic nationality I would love to come from if not being an Ikwerre man.
The former image maker of Rivers State PDP recalled that Ikwerre people were nowhere in history until God Himself decided to change the story through Dr Peter Odili and some others by raising a Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly for eight years, Minister of State for Education, former governors, serving governor; in the person of Chief Barr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and current Minister of Transportation, adding that it has made Nigerians to know that Ikwerre people are not Ibos but a different people and tribe in the country.
He supported the IMPAN book project financially and beseeched the association never to cease projecting the Ikwerreland and her people.
Hon Nwanosike expressed thanks to IMPAN for conferring him with an award of excellence in dovernance (Development and Prudent Management of Ikwerre Resources), saying that the award was very dear to the LGA and the most important award he had received since coming into politics. He noted that the award will spur him and his team to deliver more quality projects to the people.
