Kogi police parades 52 ‘vicious’ thugs


Kogi State Police Command has paraded 52 vicious and notorious suspected political thugs alleged to be responsible for various cases of electoral violence in the state as well kidnapping and armed robbery in the state.

Speaking at the police headquarters in Lokoja, the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari, said the implementation of security arrangements directed by Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, for 2019 general elections has started yielding results.

He hinted that in order to ensure violence-free elections and to clamp down on political thugs in Kogi State,  the command adopted a comprehensive crime prevention and detection strategy and operational measures which includes commencement of intensive raids of identified criminal hideouts,  black spots, and flash points across the state.

He equally disclosed that these achievements were due to the proactive strategies that were rooted in intelligence-led policing, adding that robust interactions with various strata of communities in Kogi state, particularly in the area of gathering information, since it has become obvious that security is an all stakeholders’ affairs.

He disclosed that the suspects have already confessed to their various criminal roles in the commission of crimes and admitted to have participated in political thuggery in the just concluded 2019 general elections and several kidnapping and armed robbery attacks on innocent travelers on the major highway across the state.

Hakeem Busari also stated that the Command’s operational style has provided avenue for effective collaboration with other critical stakeholders by giving them  access to share vital information and intelligence that will assist in controlling crime in the state.


First, gang  political thuggery and unlawful possession of firearms: Yakubu Zakari, Salifu Mohammed,  A jealous Michael,  Saving Halidu, Adamu Idris, Segun Oludolapo , Ojo Eugene,  Sunday Abu,  Isaac Edo, Joshua Ejibo, Ojogo Alhaji, and Monday Amodu.

Items recovered from them are as follows: One dane gun, one expended cartridge,  one English made double barrel gun,  one locally made Revolver gun,  two pump action guns, one locally made single barrel gun, one cut to size double barrel pistol with four live cartridges, three locally made double barrel guns, and one more.

Second gang kidnapp for ransom and armed robbery and syndicate/homicide, Musa Haruna, Haruna Ahmadu, Ibrahim Haruna, Gambon Dauda and Sani Yusuf a all male are the suspects and exhibits recovered from them are as follows; One AK to rifle, 15 rounds of AK 47 Ammunition,  two  locally made piste, seven cartridges and cell phones.
Abdullahi Muhammed aged 20 years was also accused of kidnapp, armed robbery and cattle rustling. Others are Osiri Peter Chenere,  Sani Idris, Auta Gajere, and Man Mohammed.
