Imo State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a total number of 146 suspects and seized 225.32 kilograms of hard drugs in the year, 2019.
Uche Sampson, the commands Public Relations Officer (PRO) who spoke on behalf of the Commander, Nse Inam, said the arrests and seizures represented a review of the agency 2019 performance achieved in pursuit of the provisions of NDLEA Act and also in fulfillment of the strategic pillar of the National Drug Control Master Plan.
He revealed that the total 48 persons who used drugs were counseled while five drug dependants were rehabilitated.
“The total number of convictions was eight and the total number of drug cases pending in court as at 31 December, 2019 was 55”.
The PRO, however, regretted that the command operated under very difficult and challenging situation in 2019 adding that the challenges were largely due to poor/obsolete logistics particularly operational vehicles and other infrastructure.
He promised that the command would record more breakthroughs in 2020, hoping that there would be improved logistics and necessary infrastructure.
He also commended the people of the state for their goodwill and moral support just as he appealed for their increased and continued support in 2020 in area of supplying useful information.
