New rector of Fed poly, Nekede, unveils 14-point goal, 72 targets

Rev Michael Chidiebere Arimanwa, the 8th substantive rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, in Imo State, a PhD holder in Civil Engineering and  the first alumnus of the Polytechnic in Owerri  to become the rector has unveiled his agenda for the institution.

The institution is adjudged as the “Best Polytechnic in Nigeria” since the last two years by the findings of the Nigerian Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Rev Arimanwa, in his inauguration ceremony recently, urged the students to work very hard so as to equal his own position and emphasized that willingness to work hard coupled with honesty was the factor that made him the Rector.

While reeling out his 14-point agenda and 72 targets he intended to pursue meet  which he made in his application letter, revealed that the staff, students’ welfare, academic excellence would occupy priority position in his administration.

In addition, new schools would be created. To crown it all, he would surpass the achievements of his predecessors in office. Also, he said his administration would further focus attention on peace and peace process, industrial harmony and quality teaching.

The institution would further witness an improved and timely issuance of certificates to graduates, ensure security of lives and property in the campus, strengthen the relationship of the school community with Nekede through regular consultation, ensure discipline in staff and students, etc.

The Rector is a COREN registered civil engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Master’s and a Doctor of Philosophy in Structural Engineering all in the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).

Before joining the services of the  institution in 1993 as a Technologist 1 in the Civil Engineering department, he worked as a technical officer, Umez Engineering Construction Company ltd Owerri.

He was ordained a priest in the Anglican Diocese of Owerri in 2012 and is a member of many professional bodies and associations such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (11732), Corporate member Nigeria Institute of Civil Engineers(C.00863), COREN registered Civil Engineer(R.19512), Fellow Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria (ICA/PF/000688, Fellow Institute of Industrial Administratiors, etc.
