Nigerian elections are all about violence and malpractices as APC rejects Wike’s advice

The issues of human right violation during election in Rivers state and Nigeria in general are not going down well with the civil society groups in the country. The body of over 50 civil society groups in Rivers State in conciliation of civil society in Nigeria says it is sad that election in Rivers state and Nigeria in general are characterized with violence and electoral malpractices.

They spoke at interactive forum with special adviser to Governor Nyesom Wike on civil society organization Dr. Blessing Utuya, in Port Harcourt.

In her speech, the secretary of the organization and the rector of Hidden Pearl Intervention Gold Daba called on relevant agencies to put into practice several suggestions that have been raised over the years on how to achieve credible and violent free election in the state.

Some representative of the civil society organizations expressed fears that the future election may as well be violent with few election malpractices.

In another response the special adviser appealed to the civil society groups not to be dented by the challenges of some of their members in the past and work with the state government to achieve sustainable election in River state.

Meanwhile, the Rivers state government has appealed to members of the All Progressive Congress to be law abiding and maintain the peace in the state ahead of the party world congresses on Saturday. The statement by the Special Assistant to the Rivers state Governor on Electronic Media Simeon Nwakodule advised hoteliers in the state not to allow their hotels to be used to ferment troubles.

The spokesman advised APC members to work towards peaceful and successful congress. The state government had once revoked license of an international hotel brand for allegedly allowing the hotel to be used to effect electoral malpractice.

Reacting, the APC turned down the advice from Wike as the publicity secretary of the APC advised Gov Wike to rather address the dust generated by massive violence that came up during PDP Local primaries across the state. They said the unsolicited advice from Gov Wike is a script to divert the attention of people from the mass criticism of the violence, killing and destructions of properties during the PDP primary by well-meaning Rivers people and Nigerians.

The publicity secretary said Wike was jittry so that at the end of this congress, peace loving people of Rivers State would have the opportunity to compare the activities of PDP and APC.
