Elders and stakeholders in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State have endorsed Governor Nyesom Wike for a second term in office saying this is due to the governor’s developmental strides in the area.
The leaders under the aegis of ‘Oyigbo Elders and Opinion Leaders Forum’ gave the endorsement during a consultative meeting for a peaceful election in Oyigbo Local Government Area at Umuagbai, Ndoki.
The convener of the meeting, Ezeala ninth of Umuokobo Clan Ndoki, Sir Nwankwo Nwankwo, said the meeting was necessary due to the infrastructural strides of Governor Nyesom Wike in the area.
Sir Nwankwo also commended the governor for the appointment of their sons and daughters into different positions of authority in the state and the appointment of Ambassador Desmond Akawor as the Director General of Governor Wike Campaign Organization.
He said that the building of new classroom blocks in Umuagbai Secondary School, Okoloma, Oyigbo, and Egberu shows the governor meant well for the youths of the area.
The essence of this meeting, he stated, was to thank the governor for the appointment of their sons into positions of authority in the state, including Honourables Alex Ibe and Okey Akara Nwogu as Special Advisers. “This is in addition to the appointments such as Mrs. Nancy Chidi Nwankwo as the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry and others appointed into State Boards, Parastatals and Agencies.
“We also want to thank the amiable Governor on the road projects going on in Oyigbo Local Government Area and in particular, the completion of Iriebe-Oyigbo link road which has reduced the traffic congestion along Port Harcourt-
Oyigbo Express road junction” he said.
Sir Nwankwo said Governor Wike deserves a second term having done well in his first tenure.
He also appealed to Oyigbo sons and daughters and the people of Rivers State, in general, to vote en-masse for Gov Wike and all PDP candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
In his speech, the PDP Campaign Coordinator in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Hon John Nwachukwu, said Gov Wike has attracted many projects to the area. He said that voting Governor Wike will enable the people of Oyigbo to continue to enjoy dividends of democracy under the PDP led administration.
In his comment, the Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Hon Prince Gerald Oforji, said the council would mobilize Oyigbo people for Gov Wike and all PDP candidates during the elections. He also appeals to residents not to travel out of the state during the elections.
But APC boss welcomes Aisha, says Rivers will vote Buhari
Meanwhile, the Rivers State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Peter Odike (JP) called on all members of the party and Rivers people in general to troop out en mass to accord the First Lady and wife of the President, Her Excellency, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, a well deserved rousing welcome as she and her entourage visited Rivers State to kick-start the South-South Zonal sensitization of women and youths towards re-electing President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 16 presidential election.
Odike who assumed his position back after the court nullified the Rivers APC congresses that produced Flag Amachree Ojukaye, expressed confidence that Rivers people would, once again, demonstrate their legendary hospitality as the State hosted the august gathering on Saturday 26th January 2019.
The chairman, who spoke in his office at the APC State Secretariat, assured the First Lady that Rivers people would massively vote to re-elect President Buhari come February 16, 2019. He further expressed the hope that Rivers APC would eventually overcome the judicial challenges it is presently facing and would record resounding success at all levels in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
