Power commissioner loses power
Gov Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has recalled the 12 local council chairmen that he suspended when they failed to attend his thanksgiving event but has sacked his power commissioner.
Gov announced the sack of the Commissioner for Power, Shedrack Chukwu, in a statement signed by the Special Assistant of Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaodo. The statement directed that the sacked Commissioner should submit all government documents and property in his possession to the Permanent Sectary of the Ministry of Power. No reason was given in the statement for the sack of the Commissioner.
Wike to focus on security and agric
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has said that his administration will focus on security and Agriculture during his second term. Governor Wike announced this while addressing Journalists after project inspection among Port Harcourt. He however added that his administration will also continue to develop education and health sectors.
Gov Wike also said that his administration will be very decisive on stopping street trading in the state capital and its environs. Our correspondent reported that Gov Wike who inspected the Real Madrid Football Academy, Judges Quarters and the Fruit Garden Market, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done at the project sites.
May 29 inauguration in PH released
The Rivers State Government has published the activities for the inauguration of Nyesom Wike for second term in office. A statement issued by the state Commissioner for information and communication, Barr Emma Okah, said the activities will start on Thursday the 23rd of May, 2019 with a variety night with the Governor at Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Center at 7pm.
On Friday May 24th there will be a novelty football match at the Sharks stadium at 4pm. The statement further said that there will be a thanksgiving church service on Saturday 25th of May at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium formerly Liberation Stadium Port Harcourt by 9am while there will be public lecture and book presentation on Monday, 27th of May, 2019 at the Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Centre Port Harcourt by 10 am.
Okah said the event will climax with the inauguration of Governor Nyesom Wike and his deputy on the 29th of May, 2019 by 10am.
….. Buhari set to formalize June 12 as Democracy Day
On the other hand, the FG is trying to return respect to June 12, the day MKO Abiol won election from the military.
President Muhammad Buhari is said to thus formalize the declaration of June 12 as democracy day. This follows the decision to earmark that day for the celebration of his second term in office. The Minister of Information and Culture Lai Muhammed told state house correspondents yesterday, that although the president would be inaugurated on the May 29, the ceremonies commemorating it will hold on June 12.
He however said that the ceremonies will be low key. Lai Mohammed said decision to organize low key inauguration event was taken at the last meeting of Federal Executive council (FEC) on May 8 2019.
Gov Wike frowns at companies
The Rivers State Government has frowned at the failure of some companies who refused giving internship opportunities to students. The Commissioner for Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment Dr. Leenonu Nwibubasa, said this when members of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) visited him.
He called on companies operating in the state to cooperate with the government in assisting Rivers people to get jobs.
Meanwhile the chairman of the institute in the state, Henry Onuakpo, said the Institute is seeking to partner with the state Government to train the people to have the right skills that will enable them be gainfully employed.
Egi oil/gas group in crisis
A high court seated in Omoku, Rivers State has issued an interim injunction restraining one Aji Chigozie Ajonya and Ifeanyi Lechi from further parading themselves as chairman, Sectary or members of the Executive Committee of Egi Oil and Gas producing Families Union.
Presiding Judge Justice Sobere Gbiambo also restrained their agents, proxies, and persons acting for or with, from interfering with the leadership and functions of the Dike Hopkins led executive committee of the Egi Oil and Gas Producing Families Union, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
