Rivers House of Assembly may invoke its powers on erring companies

The Rivers state house of Assembly has said it would not fail to invoke its powers on any ministry department, agency or company that disregards the integrity of the house.

Hon Dumle Maol gave this in a committee meeting with the Daewoo Nig Ltd and aggrieved members of Aminigboko community in Abua Odual LGA who had sent a petition against the company accusing it of marginalizing them.

Hon Maol who serves as the chairman Adhoc committee set up to investigate the petition berated  one of the representative of  the company for submitting certain documents requested of it late.

He said the 9th Rivers State House of Assembly would not tolerate any attempt to take the Parliament for granted.

The 9th Assembly is a no nonsense Assembly, we are ready to do what we are supposed to do so nobody should take us for a ride or take our responsibilities for granted.

Similarly the Rivers State House of Assembly has assured that it would resolve the misunderstanding between 29 communities in Andoni and the Amini international petroleum company operating in Oyorokoto.

The communities had complained of neglect, marginalization and failure of the company to operate with a Memoranda of Understanding.

The communities had also accused the company of allegedly refusing to employ youths of the area and failing to provide community development fund for development projects in the host communities amongst other demands.

Chairman of the Adhoc committee set up to handle the petition,  Hon Mathew Dike assured that the legislature was poised to do justice to both the company and the communities  to ensure that peace prevails.
