Killings have become rampant in Bayelsa State in recent times and the police seems to struggle to reassert itself.
The Bayelsa State Command has launched investigations into the murder of Karma Agagowei, councilor representing Sagbama Ward Six last Saturday.
Agagowei was returning from the ward congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) when six unknown gunmen shot and killed him in a tricycle popularly known as Keke at the Opolo axis of Yenagoa.
He was said to have been rushed to two different hospitals including Gloryland Hospital and Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, but died shortly afterwards as he was denied treatment for lack of a police report.
One other occupant of the tricycle which was conveying Agagowei was also attacked by the hoodlums who inflicted several machete cuts on him, but he escaped with severe injuries.
Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat in a statement late on Sunday said the Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli, “led a team of detectives to the scene and also visited and consoled the family of the deceased.”
The police statement said investigation is ongoing to unravel the motive behind the unfortunate incident.
