Sunday football: Better teams won in England

Crystal Palace 0 – 1 Tottenham Hotspurs        (Pulsating match)

Man U              1 – 0 Chalsea                              (Highly tactical)

Arsenal            0 – 3 Man City (Carabao Cup)  (Easy win)

It could be called Super Sunday for the fact that Tottenham, Man U, Man City, Chalsea and Arnenal were involved in three matches, one of them a cup match.

At noon, Crystal Palace faced Tottenham Hotspurs. Only an upset could have given the match to Palace. At the end of the pulsating encounter, Palace said they gave Spurs tough time. That seemed to be what they came to do, make it difficult for Spurs. A draw would have given them a point to go 28 points above Southampton (27) and below New Castle (29). It was Tottennham’s match to lose and they nicked one goal through Kane. Task accomplished. No upset.

Mau U squared up with Chalsea in a highly tactical game. Chalsea seemed to outplay Man U at the beginning with a goal by Williams, the Brazilian. Man U maintained tactical discipline and game plan till Lakuku and Lingard scored one each to win the match. Man U thus regained their 2nd position on the EPL to leave Conte’s team at 5th behind Spurs. Conte says top 4 would be difficult. If top 4 seems so difficualt to Chalsea, what would Arsenal say?

Faced with Man City in the Carabao or league cup, Arsenal showed they are 2nd tier team and lost by a wide margin, 3-0. Sergio Aguero seemed off-side when he pushed Mustaffi back to have a field day and tipped above Ospina to break Arsenal. The rest was easy as Kompany and Silva completed the rout. It was obvious Man City was by far the better side just as Man U showed they were more tactical and Tottenham remained the better side.

It can therefore be said that there was no upset on Sunday; the better teams won.
