* Some members crave for it to be named Chika Onuegbu House
Members of the Rivers State Chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) will, from tomorrow, March 12, 2021 be proud beneficiaries of a modern secretariat complex.
Some members who do not want to be mentioned at this stage have however pleaded that it be named after the man who made the TUC popular in this part of the country, Chika Onuegbu, who just died few months back.
The new three-storey TUC Building has a 500-seater auditorium, conference room and fully furnished offices.
The complex built by Governor Nyesom Wike underscores the cordial relationship between the State Government and Labour, according to the Commissioner of Information, Pastor Paulinus Msirim, who announced this.
The President, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Quadri A Olaleye, is expected to serve as Special Guest of Honour.
Invited guests are enjoined to adhere to all COVID-19 protocols.
It will be recalled that two years ago, the State Government also built and handed over a fully furnished secretariat complex to the state Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). The building has however been more in controversy for being sealed off by same donor at the slightest sign of disagreement, making members afraid of the gift that may have threatened the independence of the labour movement.
