·AIG arrests, prosecutes lawmaker in viral video ordering to shoot
By Ignatius Chukwu
The FG seemed to have taken a decisive action against deteriorating state of insecurity in Rivers State by sending a police officer regarded to be a ‘super cop’, but AIG Abutu Yaro may have been welcomed by the bombing of a television and radio house in Port Harcourt.
Just as news broke out that Yaro, known to go where it hots most, was heading to PH with four police commissioners to take over, the city woke up Wednesday, February 22, 2023, with news of bombing of Atlantic Television that houses Wish FM on Mgbuoba area of PH.
Shooting was also said to have taken place same night at the home of an APC chieftain.
To add tension, video went viral where a lawmaker was urging someone to go ahead and shoot whenever trouble came their way.
Yaro was the super cop sent to Imo State over one year ago to restore normalcy when the state was on fire. He was believed to do it and proceeded to hotter places.
Now, the supervising AIG has sued for peace and assured that security would be present during the elections.
Meanwhile, a statement has been issued by the Rivers State Police Command condemning in all totality a video circulating on social media of one Honourable Ephraim Nwuzi, a member of the House of Representatives, saying that residents of the State should be shot during the General Election coming up on February 25, 2023, in Rivers State.
The command’s Public Relation’s Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, said the Supervising Assistant Inspector-General of Police for the elections, Yaro, has invited the said lawmaker for questioning on the content of the video to ascertain the intent and purposes of the lawmaker in the video.
AIG Yaro assured Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, INEC Ad Hoc staff, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, foreign and local observers, voters, and all other stakeholders in the elections of adequate security before, during, and after the general election.
He urged all contestants and political parties to exercise caution just as he called on the Rivers State residents to call the police when in trouble with 08032003514 and 08098880134.
Nwuzi was immediately taken to court where he was remanded in the PH Correctional Centre for the next 10 days.
