Another Rivers State government-owned university has come into employment crisis and the new governor has ordered the employment exercise cancelled.
The first was the Rivers State University (RSU), formerly University of Science and Technology (UST), which came under heat last year for lopsided employment in favour of only one ethnic group in the state.
This time, the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) is in the news for lopsided employments and the state government under a new governor has slammed the hammer.
A statement from the office of the secretary to the commissioner of education, Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom, has cancelled the exercise.
The statement said: “The Government of Rivers State has observed with dismay the inconsistencies/ irregularities and flagrant disobedience to the directives concerning the just concluded recruitment exercise at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt.
“Therefore, the recent employment exercise conducted by the management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt is hereby cancelled.
“All appointment letters issued and received are hereby nullified and the affected persons are directed to return the letters to the office of the Registrar of the Instistition and other employment related properties such as ID Cards in their possession to the office of the Head of Service, Rivers State immediately.”
The statement said a proper and credible recruitment exercise would be conducted in due course.
