Abuja court stops Rivers collation? Latest report is contrary

Shocking news come into Port Harcourt Tuesday afternoon that an Abuja court had ordered a stop to the planned collation expected in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

The Peoples Democrtaic Party (PDP) was already in expectant moods for the collation that would lead to announcing Gov Nyesom Wike as winner.

Details of the court verdict are not clear yet but hints said the court ordered a stay until the court gives order to go ahead.

It was gathered that the AAC candidate had gone to court asking that the collation be stopped. The INEC tried to counter it but the judge ruled for a stay till the issue was resolved. The AAC team argued that since the INEC team did not comply with the court order, they should not be entitled to review of the order.

As if reacting to the stay, INEC has stated that their planned press briefing and meeting with stakeholders on Wednesday towards start of collation would not hold. The statement said the body would only release timelines of activities on the said date.

Latest reports however said no such thing took place. Instead, the Abuja court turned down the application, choosing instead to put the other party a chance to reply before any order could be issued. March 25 was chosen.
