Bayelsa State is in the news again. First, the state is beginning to enjoy political peace and stability following harmony between the ruling party in the state and their sons at the federal level still in opposing parties. Next, the state is set to harvest federal projects.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has assured of Federal Government readiness to commence the Brass Fertilizer and Atlantic Modular Refinery projects situated in Brass Island in Bayelsa State.
Sylva who stated this at the weekend during a grand reception in his honour by the people of Okpoama Kingdom in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State said the Federal Government has put finishing touches to kickstart both projects by 2021.
The one-time governor of Bayelsa State from 2007 to 2012 also disclosed that work has also gone far on the construction of a fuel depot in the area as the Federal Government makes its presence felt in coastal area.
The Brass Fertilizer project alone which is wholy Federal Government owned is expected to provide over 15,000 direct jobs at the formative stage and an additional 5,000 jobs at a later stage.
Sylva commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s vision and foresight in bringing development to the Niger Delta region and called on the youth of the area to remain peaceful and law abiding in order to attract more government presence to the area.
He said: “We have finished all touches at the Brass Fertilizer Project, we are going to take the air fighting at the end of this year, which is already with us. That is going to be a huge project on the island creating a lot of opportunities.
“Also, we have finished touches on the Atlantic Modular Refinery. We are also ready for the fuel depot, that is why we want our youths to be law abiding and peaceful for this government presence to thrive, while maximising the opportunities.
“Without peace we can never prosper as a people. Let the youth start showing good example, and shun any act of violence and crime but should embrace peace among us”, he said.
Also speaking, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State said the Prosperity Government is very willing to partner with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources to attract more federal projects to the state.
Douye Diri, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Benson Agadaga, said his administration is pleased with Sylva for the special blessings he is bringing to Bayelsa State.
He said that the state is enjoying the former governor’s contributions to the state in terms of boosting the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) and that they are very pleased over the new face of Bayelsa State which, he said, was love and collaboration.
Earlier, the Chairman of Okpoama Kingdom Council of Chiefs, Inikio Sam-Sele Dede, described Okpoama Kingdom, as peace loving, hardworking people, unique in their ways, resilient and always determined to succeed in the things they do.
He described Sylva, as a man of sterling qualities, a visionary leader, a strategic thinker, and a man of courage and positive actions that have impacted on the lives and well-being of many persons and communities as well.
