Charles Eyo of Daily Trust wins award over assault by FFK

The One Love Foundation International, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) has presented an Award for Excellence to  Eyo Charles, Cross River Correspondent of the Daily Trust Newspaper.

The representative of the foundation, Osemudiamen Ogbidi while presenting the award to the recipient in Calabar said it was in recognition of his bravery and commitment to the journalism profession.

According to him, the foundation decided to recognize the Correspondent because of his recent encounter with the former Minister for Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode (FFK).

“Eyo is a symbol of a true journalist who suffers undue oppression in the hands of the privileged in the cause of performing his functions.

“He was insulted; humiliated and downgraded just for asking a simple question. That is why, we are here to encourage you and other Journalists not to give up,” he said.

Ogbidi said gone are the days when people referred to lawyers as the last hope of the common man; “Today journalist is the last hope of the common man”.

He urged the reporter to continue his exploits in journalism profession and encouraged other Journalists to emulate him.

The foundation also presented an award to the State NUJ Chairman, Victor Udu.

Responding, Charles thanked the foundation for the award, saying that, he least expected it.

He described the insult and abuse metted to him by the former Minister as unfortunate, adding that he did not mean to embarrass him through the question.

“But I have since forgiven him,” Eyo said.
