Everybody expects Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, to retrace his steps to his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), but the rival but highly expectant Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has squealed, saying the governor has already registered in the PDP in his ward.
The Edo state chapter of the PDP said Gov Obaseki has already registered as a member of the party in his ward.
Tony Azegbemi, State chairman of the party, who made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Benin City, Thursday, added that the governor’s membership card is ready.
According to him; “At the moment, Obaseki is in Abuja but when he gets to Benin, his card is ready and he has already registered with our party in his ward. “We are ready to welcome governor Obaseki and we are excited he is joining our party”
He went on: “I just finished a state working committee meeting now, where we affirmed that we are welcoming him with open arms to our party”.
On the issue of giving the governor automatic ticket to contest the September 19 governorship election, he said the party has processes in the constitution and that he will have to go through the processes, adding that it has already started.
“So, we are set to welcome him to our party when he arrives the state. We have not shelved it,” he added.
When contacted, Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser, Media and Communication to the governor, said he can’t confirm the statement because the governor has not made any pronouncement.
“The governor said he will make announcement in respect of any thing like that but he has not spoken so we can’t confirm it until he speaks,”
“The last time, he said he would consult with his supporters and announce where he is going but he has not made any announcement,” stated.
