A man suspected to sell land to different buyers has been shot dead by policemen escorting an aggrieved party.

The victim is said to have attempted to escape when he saw the police team but was not fast enough.

Sources said the police officer who shot the youth is said to be from Omuawan in Ikwerre local council area of Rivers State, while the victim is believed to be from Omagwa in same Ikwerre local council area.

From info available to newsmen, the deceased victim sold a land to someone and was accused of selling the same land to another person.

He was said to have started paying back the money he collected from first buyer and the balance was remaining about N800,000 before the Police stormed his house that fateful night, it was revealed.

It was learnt that he seemed to have seen the police team approach and may have attempted to escape when he was shot.

The police command is said to be reviewing its Force Order 237 which guides on use of firearms by a policeman on duty.

This is more significant because as at the time the victim was shot, he did not constitute any significant risk to the Police officer(s) who came for his arrest.

Human rights groups close to the case have demanded for thorough investigation and justice in the killing now that the prime suspect in the murder has been arrested.
