The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Rivers State, has commenced the second phase of the Youth Transformation Training Scheme (YTTS) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
This is part of it’s mandate to provide the needed skill set for the teeming Nigerian youth and other unemployed persons in the country as well as wealth creation for the sustainable development of the nation.
The Youth Transformation Training Scheme is designed to transform the financial and social fortune of youths in the country and help develop a society of productive youths and curb the increasing rate of insecurity in Nigeria.
The NDE stated that beneficiaries from the previous batch of the scheme have established themselves in the various skills as well as equipped others with the skill set and a sustainable sources of income.
The Director General of NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, in his keynote
address, said that the Directorate is impressed with the result of the first phase that saw a total of one thousand eight hundred and fifteen(1,815) beneficiaries drawn from the thirty six (36) States of the federation and the FCT who received training in different skills such as Catering, Fashion and design, Hairdressing, Welding, Panel beating etc.
The DG, who was represented at the event by the Rivers State Coordinator NDE, Mrs Maureen Okeji, declared that this second phase, which will last between 6-18 months, will cater to a total of 816 trainees across the federation.
The NDE boss charged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the programmes provided by the Federal Government through the NDE to better not only their lives, but the entire community in line with the vision of the President, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The NDE further restated it’s commitment to create more jobs in the country through the various initiatives and training facilitated by competent trainers with a view to winning the war against unemployment in Nigeria.
“We in the NDE, remain at the forefront of the Federal Government’s campaign for a sustainable economy through the provision of jobs and wealth creation in the country” the DG maintained.
Director of Vocational Skills Development (VSD) Mr Issa Abdu, represented by Mr Musa Ibrahim, urged beneficiaries to embrace skill acquisition.
“The NDE has a responsibility towards the beneficiaries, and you all you who are recruited into the scheme, are expected to reciprocate this gesture by NDE through the YTTS by showing commitment to all the assigned task during the training, to enhance the success of the programme. This will also assist all participants to derive the maximum benefit.

Mrs Jackson Chinyere commended the NDE and Federal Government for their continued support for the unemployed youths in Rivers State.
