Gov Ambode of Lagos State is presenting 450 roads constructed under three years, Gov Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is unveiling 34, but Gov Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State is showcasing 193 roads either repaired or fully constructed.
Gov Okowa at the weekend said the period spanned between May 2015 and March 2018 and the road projects covered over 732 kilometers of and 229 kilometres of concrete-lined drains.
The Commissioner for Works, James Augoye, made the disclosure during the on-going 2018 ministerial press briefing series held at the conference hall of the ministry of information.
He said the value of the projects currently being handled by the ministry, including those inherited from the previous administration, was put at over N215 billion and involved 208 roads with a total length of 866 kilometers.
“Of this figure, 92 roads covering over 350 kilometres have been completed while 116 roads were at various stages of completion”, he said.
Augoye explained that the construction of the roads which comprise of highways as well as urban and rural roads, was geared towards improved mobility, the stimulation of agricultural and industrial activities as well as enhancing the quality of life for residents of the state.
He said the projects were pursued in line with the Okowa-led administration’s SMART agenda just as he explained that road development and construction was a salient factor for the achievement of the agenda.
It is hoped that other states would come clean on the roads they have constructed, if any, and that independent verifications could be done.
