* PDP state chairman says performance will determine second tenure consideration.. Akawor.

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers State, Ambassador Desmond Akawor says the score card of the present local government chairmen in the state would determine whether they deserve a return ticket or not.

Ambassador Desmond Akawor said this when the Executive Chairman of Ikwerre local Government Council Engineer Samuel Nwanosike and members of the Council’s Legislative assembly visited him in his office in Port Harcourt on Wednesday 2nd September, 2020.

The PDP Chairman  noted that as those who control the third tier of government and being the closest to the people at the grassroots, they must make their people feel the impact of governance at that level.

He regretted that most of the local government chairmen would serve out their tenure without any meaningful project to show for it and challenged them to emulate the example of Governor Nyesom Wike who during his time as Obio/Akpor local council chairman embarked on the construction of a befitting Council secretariat, noting that the structures have become his sign post long  after leaving office.

The PDP chairman who noted that managing human beings is a herculian task, however advised local government chairmen and that of Ikwerre in particular to bring everybody in the area together in order to promote peace, cordial relationship.order and development in their areas.

On the forthcoming local government election, Ambassador Akawor disclosed that the people and the leadership of the respective local government areas would decide who will preside over their affairs and not the party, adding however that performance would form the basis for which serving local government chairmen would run for a second term.

He observed that Ikwerre local government is in the eye of the storm  because it is the local government of a factional leader of a political party in the state, insisting that everything must be done to keep PDP members in the area united and intact.

He lauded Engineer Samuel Nwanosike for his efforts in improving the quality of life of the people of Ikwerre through some of his projects and programs making particular reference to the “Back to farm and Back to school programmes.

“As Chairman of the Parliatives Committee, I saw the projects when I came to your local government area to distribute food items, and we were presented with some agricultural produce, including cucumber”,

Akawor stated, adding that Engineer Nwanosike has been able to reduce the insecurity that used to be a regular feature on the Port Harcourt-Owerri road as well as helped in checking the importation of people into the state through their border during the lockdown period designed to limit the spread of Corona virus (covid-19) into the state. and assured him of the party’s support to enable him achieve more for his people.

Earlier, the Chairman of Ikwerre local government area, Engineer Samuel Nwanosike said their visit was to congratulate the PDP Chairman and members of his Executives on their successful election and inauguration and to present to him the achievements of his administration in  during the last two years.

He thanked Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party leadership for granting them the opportunity to lead the people of Ikwerre at the third tier level.

Other members of the PDP State Executive Committee  present during the visit were the Vice chairman, Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron, PDP State Secretary Dr Benibo George, State Woman leader, Mrs Mariam Ogbonna and the State Publicity secretary Hon. Sydney Tambari Gbara.
