Two Lebanese named as Dina Jihad Khali and Chamseddine Waell Mohmmed were arrested by officers of the Customs Area Command, Port Harcourt, Rivers State and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 12th August 2020 for further investigation.
The suspects Dina Jihad Khali was in possession of $670,000 and Chamseddine Waell Mohmmed was with $220,000 when they were arrested. They were both arrested while trying to board a flight to Lebanon.
News reports disclosed that the money recovered from the suspects, which they failed to declare to Customs, has been deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria, Rivers State Branch, for safe keeping.
The custom comptroller area one command Port Harcourt command, Anwa Muhammad while handing over the Lebanese to EFCC said the custom service would stop at noting in his beat to fish out smugglers in the county.
Principal Detective Superintendent Macaulay Olayinka, who received the suspects on behalf of the Zonal Head, thanked officers of the Customs Area Command for the synergy that exist between the Command and the EFCC.
He assured that investigation would commence in earnest, adding that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
