Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the FCT have rejected the appointments of Chairman and Commissioners of the FCT Civil Service Commission and Coordinators of some critical agencies and other appointments made by the Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike.
In a press statement on Thursday issued by the Convener, Comrade Abdulwahab Ekekhide, the group called for urgent attention to redress the lopsidedness and abandonment of the APC in FCT.
Comrade Abdulwahab Ekekhide alleged the Minister has killed APC in FCT by not appointing members of the party who have laboured to build the party and contributed to the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We are calling on the President to call the Minister to order, so that he can retrace his steps and start empowering the party or else, the party will struggle to get 2% for the President in the 2027 Presidential election and may loose the next Area Councils election if the situation remains this way,” he said.
The convener who said that so many appointments have been made since Wike assumed office, but alleged that the Minister had perfected the act of importing strangers from outside the FCT for critical appointments to FCT secretariats and agencies.
The statement said, “For record purpose, the Hon. Minister has just given appointment to the immediate past State Chairman of the PDP in Rivers state, Hon. Felix Obuah as Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, AMMC, can you imagine somebody that knows next to nothing about FCT.
“We want to let the President and the Hon. Minister know that we have capable people playing politics in the FCT, who have held political appointments before and have capacity to occupy any position in government.
“We want to put it on record that we have people from all the Geopolitical Zones, playing politics in the FCT that are eminently qualified to hold political office in the FCT and at National level.
“We reject in strong terms the popular saying “Monkey dey Work, Baboon dey Chop” this time Monkey Work, Monkey must Chop.”
Comrade said the implication of not appointing FCT APC members was a call to lose in subsequent elections in the FCT.
