Nigerian governments (except a few such as Delta and Edo states) hardly support their young ones but when victory comes, they speak glowingly about how important such victories were to the youth.

This has pushed many Nigerians to call for a wholistic youth development blueprint that would provide for a young person that has talent to get into the loop from infancy to stardom.

In faraway United States of America, Nigerian-born Efe Ajagba defeated Australian Joe Godall in boxing, sparking off celebrations for the victory in Nigeria and Delta State his state.

Gov Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and other well-meaning citizens have expressed excitement over the victory of the Urhobo-born boxer.

In a statement in Asaba, in the week, Oborevwori expressed the belief that the accomplishments of Ajagba on the world stage would inspire many upcoming boxing professionals to continue to believe in themselves for victory.

The statement signed by Festus Ahon, the governor’s chief press secretary (CPS) said “The hard-hitting Nigerian World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight contender stopped Australia’s Goodall in the fourth round of their 10-round main event at Tahoe Blue Event Center in Stateline, Nevada, United States of America. The 4th round knockout was a sweet revenge for the Nigerian who had lost to Goodall by a decision at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.”

He commended the triumph of the talented puncher for the deserved victory over a formidable opponent.

Oborevwori also commended the remarkable performance of Michael Efe Ejeba, Nigerian music star and former winner of BBNaija who heralded Ajagba into the boxing ring on the fateful day.He extolled the mentality of the two Deltan brothers- Efe Ajagba from Ughelli and Efe Ejeba from Okpe -for supporting each other to victory and for their outstanding performances showcasing the never- say- die and indomitable Nigerian and Delta spirit at all times.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate our illustrious son and boxing champion, Efe Ajagba, on the successful defence of his WBC silver heavyweight title

“With this victory, Ajagba has successfully defended his WBC title for the first time as he continues to build his name in the heavyweight division.”

Oborevwori lauded Ajagba for his courage and discipline on and off the ring, and prayed that Sunday’s success would be a stepping stone to fulfill his ambition of becoming the undisputed World Heavyweight Boxing champion.

He wished them a bright future and fulfilling boxing and music career, respectively.

He reiterated that his administration would continue to harness the potentials of the youths of the state for the even development of our state and country.
