Abayomi Arabambi, a member of the Labour Party, on Monday in Abeokuta advised President Bola Tinubu to urgently rejig his cabinet to serve the interest of Nigerians.
Arabambi, during a press conference, contended that many political appointees and public office-holders were not doing enough to make life easier for the citizens.
He commended President Tinubu on his efforts at improving the economy but said many of his ministers and other public office-holders were less concerned.
Arabambi, who is a Factional National Publicity Secretary in the party, noted that many of those in the President’s cabinet were “square pegs in round holes”.
He urged Tinubu to do the needful just as he urged him not to appoint people based on party affiliations alone.
“Nigerian citizens are more impoverished than they were under the colonial powers. We have been enveloped in abysmal and massive corruption, especially under the past administration.
“Our country groans under the weight of unprecedented excessive imports and a depreciating currency with the exchange rates of one U.S dollar at ₦1,652, one English pounds at ₦2,010, and one Euro at ₦1,985.
”This has rendered virtually all sectors of the economy ineffective.
“The President must be conscious of the fact that some haters of democracy and purveyors of bad news are still in the trenches planning to destabilise Nigeria over the present economy situation and which is no fault of his.
“We therefore urgently request him to execute the following in order to make life more meaningful to ordinary Nigerians and put Nigeria back on the right economy track
“The President is also hereby urged to dismiss all incompetent appointee ministers and heads of Federal Government agencies with immediate effect to bring about a better and effective government,” Arabambi said.
He lamented the epileptic power supply situation in the country “in spite of the huge investments of over 20 billion U.S dollars in the power sector by successive administrations”.
The Labour Party official urged President Tinubu to withdraw the operational certificates and licences of some electricity distribution companies and encourage private companies to take over.
“President Bola Tinubu must as a matter of urgency withdraw the certificate and licence of some of the distribution companies and encourage state governments and private electricity companies take over.
“This will pave way for a better and more prosperous nation which will bring about a great reduction in the prices of goods and services,” he added. (NAN)
