The Rivers State Representative in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board, Chief Tony Okocha, who is also the Caretaker Taker Committee (CTC) Chairman/Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has demonstrated magnanimity and philanthropic spirit by empowering over 400 widows at his residence.
The widows were presented with bags of rice, yams, palm oil, various cooking ingredients, and an undisclosed amount of money to mark his birthday.
The visibly elated widows expressed joy and gratitude for Chief Okocha’s kind gesture. They showered him with prayers and praises.
In his address to the widows, Chief Okocha thanked them for taking the time to attend his birthday and the Annual Widows Empowerment programme. He emphasized the importance of extending a helping hand to widows, as Christ is considered the husband of widows.
According to Amb. Jacobs Chimezie Happy, Special Assistant on Media to the Rivers Representatives NDDC, it is worth note that the ‘Widows Empowerment Scheme’ takes place every 22nd of December, coinciding with Chief Tony Okocha’s birthday.
