The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has said it will soon embark on the recruitment of 12,800 ad hoc staff for the September 21 Local Government Elections.
The Chairman of ENSIEC, Prof. Christian Ngwu, disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday in Enugu, while giving an update on the commission’s level of preparedness for the exercise.
Ngwu warned prospective applicants to be wary of scammers that might be prowling in the social media space to defraud unsuspecting applicants.
He said that there would be at least three ad hoc staff in each of the 4,145 polling units for the polls.
He also disclosed that the ad hoc staff would be trained a few days to the election.
According to him, the training will be on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
“Wednesday, September 18, will be preferable so that they will not forget what they learnt and it will be fresh in their memories before Saturday, which is the D-day,” he said.
He advised applicants to follow the official channel of the advert and not give money to anybody or attend any unofficial training or gathering for the job.
Ngwu said that the information currently circulating in the social media regarding the training “is not from the commission.
“ENSIEC urges everyone to disregard this misleading information,” he said.
He said that the commission received a report about an unauthorised training for ENSIEC ad hoc staff to be held in one of the council areas on Thursday (today).
“The commission quickly moved in the personnel of the Department of State Service (DSS) to verify the information and stop such illegal move.
“The DSS confirmed the development.
“It has to stop the illegal and unauthorised training and instantly dispelled the gathering since it might lead to bigger scam,” Ngwu said. (NAN)
