The Energy and Maritime Reporters (EMR) of in the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is set to organize its 2024 Seminar for the training of Maritime Sector Reporters. The essence is to train Maritime Reporters in the coastal states to deliver world class reporting in the industry.
The theme of the seminar; Understanding the Maritime Subsector and Issues in the Coastal States; with subtheme, ‘Maritime Safety Concerns and Approaches’, shall be examined by Sir/Dr Charles Wami, MD/CEO, Charkin Maritime & Offshore Safety Centre, Port Harcourt.
The event which holds on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the NUJ House on Moscow Road will also feature the crowing of the Best Maritime Reporters Awards.
The award is sponsored by the ‘Dr Emi Membere-Otaji Foundation’. The winners will be unveiled at the event at the NUJ House. Elshcon Nigeria Limited would be crowned as the Maritime Company of the Year 2024.
The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara DSSRS is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour while the Commissioner for Environment, Hon Sydney Gbara, is expected to flag off the seminar as Special Guest of Honour. He will be supported by the Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Hon Uchechukwu Nwafor.
The Chairman of the occasion will be Dr Daniel Tamunodukobipi, the National chairman, Nigeria Institute of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects, NIMENA; who is also the HOD, Marine Engineering Dept, Rivers State University.
The Mayor of Housing, My-ACE China, shall make special intervention. Industry experts would make further interventions to help Maritime Reporters in the Coastal Areas be at par with their counterparts in the Lagos axis and help the Niger Delta take its leading role in the coverage of the industry.
